FRIENDLY NEW ZEALANDERS.
IMPRESS MR BEALE,
NATURE’S LAVISH ENDOWMENT
[By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.]
AUCKLAND, June 24. New Zealand has made a warm impression on Mr L. B. Beale, who recently arrived to take over the duties of His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner. I have been in this country, only a few weeks, but if 1 were asked for my chief impression I would say it was tho delightful friendliness of everyono with whom I have come in contact, he said when addressing the Chamber of Commerce. Mr Beale said that ho was not competent to speak closely of the country, but he had been struck with the lavishness with which Nature had endowed New Zealand. Ono did not know that there was a winter in this land; in Western Canada tho thermometer sometimes registered 84 degrees qf frost in winter; while in summer tho temperature sometimes rose to 104 degrees in tho shade. “Therefore,’'’ said Mr Beale, “you have to be tough to livo tliero.” »
