DRAWN GAME

DERBYSHIRE MATCH,

9 CENTURY TO BARDSLEY.: GOOD BOWLING BY GRIMAIETT. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received June 25, 10.50 a.m. LONDON, June 24. The attendance was 4000. when the match between Australia and Derbyshire was resumed. An early start will enable the Australians to reach London to-night. The weather was threatening and the wicket soft. , The Australians continued their first innings and Storer and Creswell opened the bowling. Bardsley was immediately adventurous, the bowlers losing control of the ball which was wet from the morning dew. Bardsley reached the century with a characteristic leg glance f|om Storer, his first century of the tour. After reaching the hundred, Bardsley hit out at everything, giving chances at 101 and 104, which were missed owing to the wet ball. Ho went on brightly, and hr 6 more forcing shots than previously through the tour. Eventually he was snapped at the wicket, after a brilliant morning’s work, fujl of life and vigorous powerful drives and cuts. In the next over, Lee held a hot return from Taylor. Richardson was careful and treated the bowling with more respect than it warranted. Woodfull was forceful and did not hesitate to leave _ the crease. Richardson, was badly missed in the slips when he was 35. Then he opened out and hit 6,. 4,4, 4, in one over off Townsend. The partnership yielded 85 in 52 minutes. The Australians’ innings was declared with the score at 375 for five wickets. The sun and the drying breeze made the wicket suitable for the bowlers when Derby commenced their first strike. Everett was appreciably faster than in previous matches and kept a consistent length. Lee played confidently. He cut Mailey in fine style and was a model of patience. He followed % the ball closely and brought off many'Crisp shots. Storer was never comfortable. He was good on the offside, but lucky against Mailey.. Crom-melin-Brown raised the enthusiasm of the crowd a bit by his hitting. His partnership with Storer produced 42 in 25 minutes. Elliott, when making a vigorous on drive to the boundary strained himself badly, and was obliged to retire.

Derby followed on. The batsmen played defensively and were satisfied to "try .to keep ' their wickets intact. Grimmett bowled with a good length and beat the batsmen repeatedly. He was unlucky not to obtain more wickets.
