Sir James Carroll, M.L.C., who is ill in Wellington, was reported last night to be appreciably better than he was at the beginning of the week.

One of the oldest and most respected residents of Bulls, in the person of Air John* Dalziell, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 86 years. A London correspondent writing in May states that Lieutenant-Colonel T. A. Hunter, Director of Dental Hygiene, Wellington, visited America en route for England. While in the States lie visited a number of the larger cities, and gave two addresses in professional societies descriptive of the dental work being done in schools by the New Zealand Government.

A pleasant function was held yesterday, when Air E. W. Carter, who has been secretary to the Terrace End Bowling Club, was the recipient of a farewell presentation from the members of that body in view of his departure to Dunedin on transfer. The presentation was made by Mr E. Anderson in the absence of the president (Mr J. J. O’Sh'ea), and the token took the form Of a fountain pen suitably inscribed. Mr Carter left for Dunedin to-day.
