AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

MEETING OF MANAWATU SUBCENTRE. A meeting of the executive of tho Manawatu Sub-Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last night, there being present: Messrs T. Stubbs (in the chair), J. A. Cooksley, C. L. Turnbull, F. W. Aisher and 0. W. Gillion (lion, secretary). The Papatawa, Kumeroa-Hopelands and Foxton Clubs wrote forwarding their annual subscriptions. The Wellington Centre wrote advising of a proposal to hold a cycling road race between Palmerston North and Petone an Saturday, September 11, via Foxton and Levin, and enquiring what support would be forthcoming from this end.—lt was decided to support the proposal, and to offer whatever help was desired. Further advice was received from Wellington that the applications foxreinstatement as amateurs by Dr EB. Watson and C. D. Penniall had been granted. The secretary reported that, during the past season, 172 active members of clubs affiliated to the sub-centre had been registered, and that, in regard to the Rose fund, a total sum of £25 4s Id had been forwarded to Wellington. A sub-committee consisting of the chairman, secretary and Mr Aisher was appointed to attend to any urgent business during the off-season. The secretary reported on a conference at Wellington between representatives of the Wairarapa and Manawatu Sub-Centres, with the Wellington Centre, and decisions reached thereat.
