WIMBLEDON DRAW. LACOSTE NICELY PLACED. LONDON, June 16. In the first quarter of the men’s singles at Wimbledon Lacoste is likely to have a fairly easy passage, his most prominent opponents being Kingsley, Brugnon and Lycett. The second quarter includes Ivingsey, Feret, Turnbull, Gilbert, Spence, Crole Rees, Lowe and von Kehrling; and the third quarter, Richards, Cachet and Wheatley. In the fourth quarter are Borotra, Austin and Godfree.
The women’s singles worked out less satisfactorily. Mdlle. Lenglen opposes Miss Browne in the first round, and if she wins Mdlle. Lenglen will meet another rival, Miss d’Alvarez, early in the same quarter. The second quarter includes Miss Helen Wills, Miss Joan Fry, and Mrs Mallory; the third, Mile. Vlasto, Mile. Contostavlos; and the fourth, Miss Ryan and Mrs Godfree. Thus there is a possibility of Miss Ryan and Mile. Lenglen yet again contesting the final. Miss Wills is unlikely to play in the singles. In the men’s doubles York and Greig will oppose Itoper-Barrett and Gore in the first round. MEN’S SINGLES FORECAST. Mr S. N. Doust, formerly of Sydney, writing in the Daily Mail, says: “The best players in the men’s singles are well distributed, although the second quarter includes six, any one of whom is a possibility for the semi-finals. “The last four left in will probably be Lacoste (France), Kinsey (America), Richards (America), or Cochet (France), and Borotra (France). Thus in the event of Richards beating Cochet, who is a poorer player on the grass than he is on,a hard court, 'both semi-finals would be France-American contests, with the probability of the players - being contested by two French players for the third successive year. “The- players in the women’s semifinals should be Mdlle. Lenglen (France), Mrs Mallory (America), or Miss Joan Fry (England), Mdlle, Contostavlos (France), Mrs Godfree ,Fngland) or Miss Ryan (England).”
