FRENCH OR GERMAN?
ALSACE LORRAINE’S LANGUAGE. TROUBLE BREWING. LONDON, June 12. Following the issue of a manifesto by an Alsace-Lorraine autonomist organisation, which is regarded as a separatist movement, the French Government, according to the Paris correspondent of the Times, will take action against the signatories. The French press believes that the movement is largely the creation of German propaganda, and that it is also due to a mistaken Govdi-nment policy, and that if it is not handled with tact and judgment it may prove dangerous. The main grievance relates to language, the French desiring the next generation to speak French instead of German, which is at present spoken. The majority of the inhabitants of the provinces concerned condemn the movement.
