INTOXICATED DRIVERS.
SENTENCES OF IMPRISONMENT. Per Press Association. Juno 24. As a sequel to a collision on the Papanui road Denis Benjamin O’Callaghan, the driver of a motor van, was sentenced this, morning to seven days in goal on a charge of intoxication. Though he 1 pleaded that he had only taken a mixture of cough cure and rum to “fix” influenza, Charles Ncilson, a labourer, was given the maximum penalty of three months in gaol for drunkenness while in charge of a horse and cart. The man had been before the court eight times on similar charges.
