MODERN ROBIN HOOD.
MELBOURNE HIGHWAYMAN,
WOULDN’T ROB ORPHAN. MELBOURNE, June 14. A weird story of a tender-hearted highwayman has been related to the South Melbourne police. When Francis Joseph Flynn, a young porter, was going home late on Sunday night he was held up by two masked and armed men in Ferrars street, South Melbourne. “Hands up 1” commanded one of the men. Flynn, alarmed, complied. He was then asked how much money he had. “Five shillings,” lie replied. “Are your parents alive?” was the next question. Flynn told. the men no; only his mother was living. One of the men mado a move to search the lad’s pocket, but the other ordered him to desist. Flynn was then ordered to go home. The lad has told the police that he. was too alarmed to report the incident the same night. He describes both men as young.
