ENORMOUS CONGREGATION. CHICAGO, June 22. i An enormous gathering, .even larger than Monday’s assembled in the open-: air cathedral of the so-called “Soldiers’ Field” to partake in the Eucharist cere 7 monies to-day, which was set aside for women, who formed the great majority of the 250,000 congregation. It is estir mated that 100,000 more persons waited outside the field, hearing the ceremonies broadcast. Six thousand nuns and 6000 additional lay-women, members of the Chicago Catholic churches, intoned tho “Carnevalis Itosa,” after which a brilliant procession of cardinals, archbishops, bishops, monsignors and priests moved on to the field to the strains of the American National Anthem sung by the whole gathering. Tho Austrian Cardinal Piffl opened the proceedings with an address in German. Mr Pierce Butler, Justice of the United States Supreme Court, followed; then came Cardinal O’Connell, of' Boston. The assemblage was greatly moved emotionally, many women weeping.—A. and N.Z. cable.
