WELLINGTON CONTESTS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 23. The finals for the 1926 amateur box* ing championships attracted a good crowd to the Town Hall thig evening. The standard of boxing was maintained at a high pitch, and the big crowd was well pleased with the quality of the entertainment provided. Following were the results:—
Welter-weight.—J. Rodda (9.8) beat T. Urwin (lOst); bantam-weight, H. Larsen (8) beat W. Drieberg (8.01); feather-weight, F. Keith (8.8) beat G. Adams (8.13}); light-heavy-weight, G. Evatt (11.7) beat W. Brown (11.4); paper-weight, A. Hill (6.11) beat E. Coventry (6.11); fly-weight, T. Hume (7.83) beat C. Woods (7.93); lightweight, E.’ Morgan (9.12 j) beat J. Rodda (9.8); middle-weight, R. Johansson (10.12}) beat W. Brown (11.4). FRENCH FLY-WEIGHT CHAMPION LONDON, June 21. Elky Clark out-pointed Francis Moracchini for the French fly-weight championship.—A. and N.Z. cable. BOXING CONTROL. AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. LARGER MEMBERSHIP NOT FAVOURED. Per Pres* Association. AUCKLAND, June 23. The Auckland Boxing Association discussed a proposal to increase the membership from 150 to 300 and to increase the subscription to thres guineas, with an entrance fee of £l. This was carried by a majority _ of about a dozen votes, hut a two-thirds majority is required for an alteration of the rule. Amendments slightly varied were carried by a bare majority. The chairman said that it would be finfortunate if the impression got out that the/ were trying to keep the association a close corporation, but tliaf was not the opinion of the meeting.
