WORLD CONFERENCE. LARGE NUMBER OF DELEGATES. ’ DECLINE IN EUROPEAN . MIGRANTS. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received June 23, 11.35 a.m. LONDN, June 22. A world Migration Conference has opened, with 150 delegates present. Mr J. H. Thomas was unable to attend. M Mertens (Belgium) presided. Mr Brown, one of the secretaries of the International Federation of Trade Unions, emphasised that this was -the first time that migration had beenfhe sole subject of a labour world congress. He pointed out that the migrants from Europe in the five years ended 1924 numbered less than 3,500,000 compared with 7)000,000 in the five years ended 1913. The decline was chiefly due to the restrictions on immigration. MiBrown referred to the silent penetration of Asia by Chinese and also the movement of African natives to mining and agricultural centres.—Reuter.
