SWEETSER ILL. NEW YORK, June 11. Jesse Sweetser, the winner of th® British amateur golf championship, has arrived homo by the Aquitania. He is critically ill with influenza, and was rushed ashore by a destroyer, which was met at the pier by a hospital ambulance. LONDON, June 11. The Daily Mail’s golf correspondent says that Sweetser requested that liis illness be kept a secret in England owing to the delicate state of health of his wife, to whom he had jjeenr-ar- ! ried only six months. » I Sweetser was put to bed two hours after he defeated Holderness in the last round of the Walker Cun. He only played because a substitute could not be found. Later in the evening he was found at his hotel in a serious condition with haemorrhage of the throat. Doctors reluctantly permitted his being carried aboard the liner at Southampton.
