RACING NEWS.

FROM STABLE AND COURSE.

(By “Binocular.”)

Juno 23. —Hawke’s Bay Hunt. June 25, 26.—Hawke’s Bay J.C. July 6,8, 10.—Wellington R.C. July 22.—Waimato District Hunt. July 22, 24.—Gisborne R.C. July 24.—South Canterbury Hunt. July 31.—Christchurch Hunt

The Napier Park meeting, which concluded on Saturday, was a success in all respects, the fields being good and the attendance of patrons large. As a direct result, totalisator business was brisk and the club enjoyed an increase of £4147 in its totalisator returns for the two days.

The Huntorville sportsman, Mr J. Bull, experienced an excellent run for he followed up his first day’s victory with Ngata by securing wins with both Brigadier Bill and Ruby Ring on Saturday.

First day form was not altogether a good guide for investors on the Saturday, for only two first favourites carried their supporters through. Third favourites won three times and fourth favourites twice.

Some good dividends were forthcoming from second place getters, Revel being twelfth in the order of betting, Supporter and Merry Singer eighth favourites and Lady Comet seventh.

At the Wanganui meeting Ruby Ring ran prominently for a period in the Kaitoko Hurdles and was again to the fore for a mile and a-half at Napier Park on Friday. The exposition apparently was allowed to pass unnoticed bj’, the majority of the patrons for the All Red gelding advanced but one position in the betting order.

Essential, who acted as pacemaker in the Maiden event at Otaki on the first day over the first five of the six furlongs distance, went still better at Napier Park on Saturday by. finishing second to Polar over five furlongs. The race should do the Paper Money —Murihiku gelding a world of good.

Tuahine, who in company with some of the other members of the same stable was under offer recently, accounted for the big seven furlong event on Saturday. He filled the position of first choice- in public opinion both days.

Roydl Diadem, after having to forego the honours in the Bracelet on the first day owing to his rider having weighed in short, ran Tuahine to half a length and it is evident that the Polydamon gelding is returning to form.

Passin’ Through ran an indifferent race the first day in the big but with a change of riders accounted for his opponents on Saturday, the favourite, Bonny Rill, who was expected to repeat her first day’s form, coining to grief at one of the fences.

Olympic was strongly fajicied both days by stay at home bettors, but their investment money was returned to them, the Polydamon gelding not fulfilling lvis engagement either day. It now appears that there was an irregularity in his nomination paper, while a similar condition of affairs will prevail at Hastings.

Roy Reed placed another two victories to his credit on Saturday, annexing the honours on Tuahine and Watchman, and his claims to the jockey premiership are apparently assured again this season.

There will be further racing in Hawke’s Bay to-morrow when the Hunt fixture will be conducted. Royal Heather, Rehutai, Royal Land, Minstrel Boy, Revel, Startle and Silent Dick appear to have been accorded reasonable poundages. The run will no doubt be a- pipe opener for many of the candidates in preparation for the Hastings meeting two days later.

Present indications point to Llewellyn, Thursby and Birkenella being brought south to the Trentham meeting.

A three-year-old addition to Captain Gage Williams’s stable at Trentham is by Acre from a granddaughter of Lady Fisher, the dam of Maniapoto.

The Otago gelding Tione is spoken of in the south as a Winter Cup possibility. So far this brother to Roseday has proved somewhat inconsistent.

The Paper Money—Peroriilla rising ,two-year-old "filly in H. Telford’s stable at Trentham is- reported to bear an appearance .that she will bo ready early and go fast. The Paper Money —lrish Beauty filly is, however, spoken of as being of a different type, being bigger and more sedate. This filly is owned by Mr I. G. Duncan’s stud groom, T. Handley, in whose colours she will run.

Husker, an aged gelding by Husbandman from Spanker, has joined Captain J. Gage Williams's stable at Trentham. His dam is a sister to Compass, who won the Grand National Hurdles 17 years ago.

Tarleton is reported to have been placed on the easy list and will not be seen in action again until the spring. He has proved a distinct disappointment on the flat, but he may prove more successful in the jumping game, if tried, for his sire Nassau has such representatives as Eerie, Brushwood Boy and Sottano successfully performing in that branch of the sport.

Pineta, dam of Rapine, who has failed to produce a foal since 1919, is reported to be showing signs of beipg in foal to Paladin this season.

Mr J. F. Buchanan, proprietor of, the Kinlocli stud, Little lliver, Canterbury, is reported to have suffered the loss of an attractive looking colt by Paladin from Vernal (imp.) and a colt by Paladin from Lady Kinloch. |

Although' it had been thought that Nigger Minstrel’s racing career had been closed, reports from Woodville state that hopes are entertained that he will stand a further preparation. I The son of All Black has been nominated for some of next year’s classics. His was a brilliant performance when ho ran Heroic to a head in the Australian Jockey Club’s Derby of 1924. In previous winters trouble has been experienced by trainers at Trentham in getting their horses ready for winter and early spring racing, owing to the sodden state of the training tracks thero. In future there should bo no cause for complaint, as £IOOO was lately 'spent by the Wellington Racing Club in making a sand track, well-nigh perfect. 1

A. Trounson, at one timo an officer in the Indian Army, is riding with success in cross-country events in Victoria. On settling in Melbourne ho began to ride as an amateur, but he some little time back applied for a license to ride, and this was granted by the Victoria Racing Club.

The elevation of the Hon. K. S. Williams to Cabinet rank will bo'well received by the racing community, as tho new Minister is a keen sportsman, states an exchange. His colours have not been much in evidence lately, but he owned Vagabond when the Martian gelding won the New* Zealand Cup, while quite recently he sent a yearling colt by Prince Willonyx from Barcarolle to Trcntham, to be trained by H. B. Lorrigan.

Three winners at a recent meeting at Moo refield, Sydney, hailed from G. Price’s stable. Bonne Chose and Clond won the two divisions of tho Maiden Handicap and My Chant captured the Juvenile Handicap. Bonne Chose is a New Zealand bred filly by Absurd from Bon Espoir, by Boniform, from Ringdove.

E. W. Simmons, the Australian joclcoy, who has completed tlve term of suspension imposed on him by the A.J.C. stipendiary’stewards, has sent a cable message from New r York for a clearance to enable him to ride in America. Simmons went to America for a holiday, and did not mean to ride in that country, but as several tempting offers have been made he has decided to try his luck on American tracks.

AGA KHAN WANTS SOLARIO. LONDON, June 7. “It is certainly true,” said the Aga Ivahn in reply to an inquiry as to whether he had offered a record sum for the four-year-okl horse Solario. “I want Solario for the’ stud,” he added. “I have forty good mares, and badly need a first-class stallion.” These mares are at the Aga Khan’s stud in Ireland. They include the famous Mumtaz Mahal, Teresina, Taj Mahal, and a number of others by The Tetrarch. There is little doubt that the offer is £IOO,OOO. Sir John Rutherford, owner of the horse, previously refused an offer of £70,000, and Sir John says now that he intends to keep Salorio, whom ho bought as a yearling for 3500 guineas, outbidding the Aga Khan for him.

Solario last- season won the St. Leger, the Princess of Wales Stakes, and the Ascot Derby Stakes, while he captured the Coronation Cup at Epsom on Thursday. The racing correspondent of the Times recently described Solario as “the greatest horse now in training, and one of the greatest of all time. He should make an ideal sire, comparable with the great sires of the past.” Solario is by Gainsborough, son of Bayardo, and winner of the Derby, St. Leger and Two Thousand Guineas, from Sun Worship by Sundridge (son of Amuhion), from Doctrine by Ayrshire (sou of Hampton), from Axiom by Peter. If the offer of the Aga Khan of £IOO,OOO for Solario be accepted, it i will be easily a record price for a ] thoroughbred. Mr J. B. Joel gave £40,000 for Prince Palatine. Mr le Blanc purchased Flying Fox for 37,500 guineas. Sir William Bass g:;ve £31,500 for Cylleno and Diamond Jubilee was sold at that figure to an Argentine breeder. Papyrus was sold alter his disastrous American trip for £35,000. He would, probably have been worth at least £56,000 if lie had never Crossed the Atlantic. Larger than any of the foregoing was the price paid by Senor S. J. TJnzue, of the Argentine, when he purchased the English horse Tracery from Mr August Belmont (U.S.A.) for £53,000.
