NEXT WEEK’S CARNIVAL.

PREPARATIONS WELL FORWARD

Preparations for the conduct of the big winter carnival of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association are well forward anl this morning the grounds presented a busy scene. Showmen have erected a number of tents about the grounds and exhibits were being placed in the halls during the forenoon. Butter and cheese promise to make a fine display, the competition this year being most representative. The exhibition opens on Tuesday when judging will commence at 9 a.m. in several divisions. There will be a sale of Milking Shorthorns at 10.30 a.m. and the boxing try-outs in No. 5 • hall at 7.30 p-m. The fact of the great advance this year on last in the matter of aggregate entries has been stressed before, while the public are now generally aware ■Uiat the motor exhibit will be a record for any winter show. Rugby football is always a strong “drawing card’' and this year the series of matches arranged should serve to hold tho interest of large crowds about the oval. In connection with the National Dairy Show at Palmerston North from loth to 19th June, the Railway Department advertises in to-day’s paper particulars of the issue of special excursion fares to Palmerston North. The afternoon train to Foxton will run on a later schedule on 16th, 17th and 18th June, also the afternoon train to Wanganui on 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th June-
