THEFT ADMITTED.
SENTENCE OF ONE MONTH. Described as a carpenter and cook, 29 years of age, John Eeginald Ellis, alias Robert Lucas, alias Jack Clarke, Alias J. Hail, alias Williams, alias Richards, appeared before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court this morning, charged that, on June 11, at Palmerston North, he did commit theft of ono cigarette tray and four keys, of a total value of 14s, tho property of Henry Bodley, and that, on or about May 9, at Wanganui, he did knowingly make a false document, namely, a clvequo for £5, drawn oil the Bank of New Zealand at Hawera, purporting to ho signed by Blair and Sellers, and did act upon it as if it were genuino by uttering it to S.O.S. Motors, Ltd.
On tho application of Detective Holmes, accused was remanded to Wanganui on the charge alleging forgery. On the theft charge accused pleaded guilty. Detective Holmes stated that the stolen property had been found in Ellis’s possession when arrested yesterday. After perusing accused’s record, His Worship imposed sentence of one month’s imprisonment with hard labour.
