COMING SESSION
PROBABLE LEGISLATION. AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE QUESTION. [By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.] WELLINGTON, June 12. Very little interest is being taken in the approaching session ot Parliament, owing no doubt to the fact that the Government has such a large majority that the issues are not at all in doubt. £ There will, however, be some special interest in the fact that the Labour Party (under Mr Holland) will for the first time in the history of the country occupy the Opposition benches, though with decreased numbers in their party as compared with last session. For some time past the Law Draftting Department has been busy drafting the bills that are to bo introduced and during its recent lengthy sittings Cabinet has examined these and possibly has said its final word about them, at all events for the time being., One of the bills that will be of interest in tho country will be one regarding the proposed agricultural College. It is understood that Hon. 0. J. Hawken, Minister of has tho question of locality almost settled, and it is practically certain that it will be in the North Island. There will bo a bill for tho constitution of a local government board and Hon. G. J. Anderson may bring in a bill for compulsory contributory pensions—a somewhat difficult problem. In regard to dairy control, tho Government is not at all likely to alter its policy. A licensing bill, if it gets a “good run,” will lead to a lengthy and perhaps warm discussion. Mining legislation may also be expected.
The Prime Minister will have to leave for London befo’e the end of the session, possibly about the end of September or beginning of October. It is understood that lie will leave Dir Downie Stewart in the position of Leader of the House for the rest of the session.
