“GET OUT!”

MAYOR IS THREATENED, ANGRY SCENE AT INQUIRY, NEWCASTLE, May 28. “Get out!” ordered the Public Works Committee chairman to the Mayor of Newcastle. “I’ll go when I’m ready,” retorted the Mayor. “If you don’t go, I’ll have you removed by the police!” was the last word of the chairman. This was the climax to an angry scene between Mr Burke, M.L.A. (chairman of the Public Works Committee) and the Mayor of Newcastle (Alderman Cornish), at the inquiry infjo the Cess-nock-Cockle Creek railway proposals today.

Followed by the town clerk (Mr Glassop), his arms full of papers, the Mayor made an undignified exit.
