FRANCE’S POPULATION.

INCREASE OF. 1,250,000 INFLUX OF FOREIGNERS. LONDON, May 29. A provisional estimate of the March census, which is unlikely to be more than a few thousands out, shows that France’s population totals 40,500,000 —an increase of 1,250,000 since-1921. This increase is due to the influx of foreigners, who in 1921 numbered 1,550,000. At present there are more than 3,000,000 foreigners in France. Thus the native-born population has actually decreased. . The returns prove that, the inhabitants are returning to the devastated regions.
