JAZZ SAVES PANIC.
ON SINKING STEAMER. , NEW YORK, May 27. Jazz saved a panic when America’s largest riyer steamer —the Washington Irving—rammed a barge in the Hudson River, and sank. There were 350 passengers aboard, and when the accident happened there were signs of panic, but the band struck up the latest jazz tune. " The passengers immediately became quiet, and eventually all were rescued.
The London stockbrokers are said to wear out the floor of the Stock Exchange every five years. This means that the floor is worn away to a depth of half-an-inch.
