MANGAHAO SCHEME

MORE WATIIR IN DAMS. ASSISTANCE MAY NO LONGER BE NEEDED. AVlien approached by ’a" “Standard” reporter this morning for further information as to the position regarding the water supply of the Mangahao hydro-electric scheme, Mr AA’. A. AVaters, chief engineer of the Mana-watu-Oroua' Power Board, established communication with the Mangahao station.

' Subsequently he informed the newspaper representative that the Mangahao river, apparently as tho result of light rain on the ranges, had freshened up slightly with the result that at noon to-day the dams wore filled to within five feet of the maximum capacity level. It was probable, he added, that tho assistance given by auxiliary plants to conserve the water supply at Mangahao would not be required after this evening and that Mangahao would again assume normal operation of its huge load. The Palmerston North power station stopped generating at 11 o’clock last night and the power locally is again being obtained from Mangahao.
