CHILD’S DEATH.

Per Press Association

DUNEDIN, Juno 11. At the inquest on Victor Sanderson, aged three, who died as tho result of a fall from a perambulator on Wednesday, the evidence showed that the child developed a form of paralysis, causing frequent falls. A verdict of death from cerebral concussion was returned.

The south-bound Napier mail train this afternoon was of unusual length, a large number of Itugby enthusiasts being passengers to Wellington to witness the annual North v. South Island game which will be played at Athletic Park to-morrow. - Hawke’s Bay’s six representatives in the North Island team passed through yesterday, but Mr Norman McKenzie, Hawke’s Bay and North Island selector, was one of to-day’s passengers. Tho Wananui Rugby fifteen, which has been on tour as far as Poverty Bay, travelled by special car on the same express, their carriage being disconnected at Palmerston North. In accordance with the policy of the Department of Health in keeping the Dominion average of its subsidies down to £1 for £l, the Palmerston North Hospital Board was called upon some time ago to refund £BO4, overpaid subsidies. Tho board protested against what it considered an unfairness, having regard to its system of light levies on the local bodies, and asked tho Minister (Hon. J. A. Young) yesterday whether he had further considered the matter. The Minister replied that he could do nothing for the board under the Act as it at present stood, although ho was sympathetic and would further consider tho position.
