DARGAVILLE TO KOHUKOHU. SEVERAL STORES ENTERED. WHANGAREI, April 8. A few weeks ago threo men set out from Auckland on a tour of tho north. They arrived at Dargaville, and, it is alleged, broke into the Farmers’ Trading Company’s store and replenished their stock of necessaries to the oxtent of about £B. It appears they came through from Dargaville to Hikurangi, and mado an attempt on tho safe of the Farmers’ Trading Company’s store in that township. Tho attempt was unsuccessful. Their next stage, apparently, was Taheko, Hokianga, as the store there was raided. An attempt was also mado to blow open tho safe, but this was a failure. ,

Waima was also visited, but tho safe of tho store, which was raided, also resisted efforts mado with gelignite to force it open. Tho trio, it seems, next converted a boat to their own use and rowed from Waima to Kohukohu, whore Messrs Andrews and Sons’ store was entered somewhere between Good Friday and Easter Monday, but probably on Sunday. An attempt on. the sale was successful, and the raiders got away with cash consisting of notes, mixed silver, cheques and various goods amounting in all to between £l5O and £2OO. Nothing was then known concerning tho perpetrators of these raids.

Inspector Hollis, of Whangarci, was communicated with, and the police in : ,surrounding districts were informed as to what had happened.

As a result, threo well-known criminals named lirasling, Sainsbury and Arrow wero arrested yesterday by Constable A. E. Bissett, of tho Kaitaia police. Tho arrest was a particularly smart one.

Tho threo men waro charged today at Kaitaia and romanded to Whangarci to bo charged in connection with Dargavillo and Hikurangi offences.

Deteotivo do Norville has been dispatched to Hokianga to investigate tho complaints mado in that district. All tho police concerned, said Inspector Hollis this morning, were to bo commended for tho manner in which they had assisted in effecting tho arrest.
