CROSSING FATALITY.
SINGLE MAN KILLED. Per Press Association. HAMILTON., April 8. A railway crossing fatality occurred on the Main Trunk line about a mile south of Taupiri this afternoon. ■ As the Thames express bound for Auckland approached the crossing a motor lorry, driven by William Henry Corntliwuite, single, 22 years of age, appeared on tne rails. The express collidecl with the vehicle, killing its driver almost instantly and smashing the lorry to matchwood. Corntliwaite was employed by the Public Works Department and was engaged conveying camping material from Hamilton to Taupiri lor electric work. Deceased’s parents reside in Palmerston North.
The crossing where the accident occurred is an open one. Cornthwaito was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the smash.
The deceased is the younger son of Mr and Mrs Bryan Corntliwaite, of 141 Fitzherbert street. His elder brother is also employed in the Waikato. Mr and Mrs Corntliwaite, senr., left for the north by last night’s Limited.
