With the march of progress, states the Herald, another relic of old Wanganui has disappeared from tho landscape. Up till this week a largo willow tree flourished in Guyton street, but it has now been cut down. It is said-that this tree was grown from a slip tukon from tho famous St. Helena willow.

A five-year-old girl had a fortunate escape in a Petone street recently. A motor car was being driven slowly along when the child, without looking, ran out from behind a standing motor bus, and was knocked down, the csr passed completely over her, and would not have hurt her had she not tried to sit up. As it was she received a slight blow on the back of the head, from the rear axle of the car.

“Would you giro accused 48 hours in which to find the money V” asked counsel in the Police Court at Auckland, when tho magistrate, Mr fi. iv. Hunt, S.M., imposed a line of £2 in an assault case, “ilo had £l4 on him when arrested,” said Senior-Sergeant Jtdwards,. "It is a wonder you did not know that,” remarked tho magistrate to counsel. “I liavo just been instructed,” counsel replied, amid laughter, “but ho will not need timo to pay if that is the case.”
