DIAMONDS FOUND.
PICKED UP AT THEATRE.
THOUGHT TO BE BUCKLE. SYDNEY, March 31. A platinum brooch valued at £SOO, which was lost by Mrs Hawke, who is staying at tho Hotel Australia, has been found and returned to Superintendent Mankey, head of the C. 1.8. Police Headquarters. The brooch was picked up at the St. James Theatre on Friday, the opening night, by John Preston, an employee of tho refreshment roorqs, living in Oxford street, Paddington. On examining it he thought it was an ordinary buckle and took it home. On seeing tho announcement in the papers he again scrutinised the article and came to tho conclusion that it was the missing brooch. Calling at Police Headquarters late last night, ho handed it to Constable Flood, who placed it in the safe at the detective office.
