Owing to tho cold winds prevailing tho number of visitors to the local seasido during the holidays showed a marked fallingoif.
Tho late Dr. Bennett, whoso death we chronicled last week, was in practice in Foxton about 22 years ago. Thcro wore good congregations at all tho local churches on Eastor Sunday, the services being appropriate to tho season. Rov. W. H. and Mrs Walton, Miss Ritchio and Mrs Christio aro on a motoring tour in tho Auckland province. Mr J. Desmond intends paying a visit to tho Dunedin Exhibition and the south next week.
During the Eaeter holidays the local green was patronised by a few enthusiasts. On Saturday afternoon a pairs tournament of two games of fifteen heads each was played, tho winners being Mattar and Barr (skip), and tho runners-up R. Thompson und A. Smarl (skip). Mrs.G. K.. Aitken, of Kaiapoi, and her daughter. Miss Aitken, of Featherston, v'oro visitors to Foxton during the holidays and were the guests of Miss Duncan. Miss Aitken is tho Plunkct nurse in the lower Wairarapa. SOCCER. Tho annual meeting of flic Foxton Association Football Club was presided over by Mr MoKnight. A good number of mombers were present. Tho balance-sheet showed receipts for the year £33 19s, expenditure £39 19s, leaving a debit of £6. Against this, tho club owned assets valued at £l6, so the position is very satisfactory. The election of officers resulted as follow : Patron, Mr T. W. Winstanley; president, Mr J. MoKnight; vice-presidopt, Mr H. Nixon; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr B. Hinds; captain, Mr G. Mounsey; vicocaptain Mr A. Orowo; coach, Mr J. McKnight; delegate to M.F.A., Mr B. Hinds. A lotter was ’ read from ,tho M.F.A. stating that six teams had cnteded in" tho senior division, and tho games would commence on Saturday, April 10th. Prospects for tho season aro very bright. New players are signing on, somo of whom are recent arrivals from Home. These should strengthen the team considerably and enable I< oxton to show up well in tho competitions. Foxton will meet R.S.A. (Palmerston) in Easton Park on Saturday in tho first match of tho season.
