DISCOVERING COLD.
HOW WIRELESS HELPS
AIELBOURNE, Alarch 29.
A claim that gold reefs can bo divined with wireless instruments is being carefully investigated bv prominent miners of Bendigo and Alaldon.
Mr J. A. DawSon, who was formerly in charge of the electrical engineering department of the Ballarat School of Alines, has demonstrated tho possibilities of tho new discovery. The ground that was explored was charged to 1500 feet with electric current. Headphones wero then fixed to a pair of steel pegs driven into the earth, and experimenters listened in for tho location of tho reof. Gold, it is stated, absorbs the waves, and silica deposits reflect them, so that there is a distinct noiso in the earphones if it is not good goldbearing ground. Each test to dato has been successful, and tho reefs have always proved what was expected. A reef Gft. wide has been located on an old field near Alaldon, and a shaft sunk within 18ft. of it. Tho result is being anxiously awaited.
