WIN FOR WOODVILLE

EASTER RINKS TOURNEY. FEILDING BEATEN BY 11 POINTS. In fine weather the final of the Manawatu Bowling Centre’s annual Easter Rinks tournament was contested on the Palmerston North Club’s green this morning between AVoodville (Nicholas, Bly, Trott and Eardrop, skip) and Feilding (Way, Moore, Ross and. Herdman, skip). Feilding won the toss and decided to lead. Way with his first bowl drew about two feet off the kitty, and this remained the shot until the skips went to the mat. Wardrop then lind two seconds. Herdman’s first failed to alter the lie of the bowls, but with his second ho drew another about six inches behind the kitty. AVardrop drove with his last, but did not alter the shot bowls. —Feilding two. On the second he'ad Nicholas with his last drew two feet to the rear of the kitty. Moore, however, sent one down a foot in front of the jack, but Trott got in closer and Wardrop drew another, thus equalising tlio scores. On the fourth head—a full length one—with Feilding three up, Trott drove with his first but did not disturb the head. Tho sixth head saw AVav draw to within a foot of kitty, and his second mado tho position two up. With his first Trott drew tjae shot. Ross’s first cut Trott’s out, and'AVardrop drew a beauty six inches off the jack. Herdman drove and sent kitty to the side, leaving AVoodville one up. AVardrop drew another perfect shot, and Herdman drovo but failed, leaving himself two down. —AVoodville 7, Feilding 4. Tho seventh saw Ross, with AVoodville lying three, “burn” tho head. On the replay, with AVoodville lying one, Bly drew another and Trott’s second made it three. Ross drove and again killed the head. On the further replay Moore drew dead on to kitty, but AVardrop with a beauty wrested the shot bowl and took its place. 3he subsequent bowls did not alter the position. —AVoodville 8, Feilding 4. On the eighth, with AVoodville lying two, Moore drew dead against the jack. Trott drove and left Woodvillo one up. AVardrop with his first put in another, and with his last, trailed the jack and was still two up. Herdman s last cut out one.—AVoodville 9, Feildilirr 4. Eying two down on the ninth, AA ardrop sprung tho jack to the side and was three up. Herdman, however, drew tho shot. —Feilding 5, AVoodville Herdman was lying one when the skips went to the mat for t.ne 10th head, and tho remaining bowls faded to alter the lie—Feilding 6, AVoodville 9. AVardrop added three on the next head and led 12—6. On the 12th, with Feilding lying one, Trott trailed tho jack for one, but Herdman’s first knocked one of his own in and he lay two. The last two bowls did not alter tho position. Feilding 8, AVoodville 12. The 13th saw Boss, with AVoodville lying one, drive and spring tno kitty to the boundary, where AVardrop was still one to the good. AVith his first AVardrop put in another and with his last, in an endeavour to cut out one of Herdman’s and make the position threo up, altered the lie of' the shot bowls and left himself one down Feilding 9, AVoodville 12. On the 14th, with Herdman lying four, AVardrop drew to within two feet of the jack and saved two. Herdman put in another and AVardrop with his last drew second shot —Feilding 10, AVoodville 12. . , On the 15th Trott trailed the lack for two, and Herdman drove with his last, but failed to alter the lie ol the shot bowls. AVardrop drew another with his last —AVoodville 15, Feilding 10. The 16th saw Trott, with Feilding lying two, draw the shot. AVardrop put in another, and finished two up AVoodville 17 v. Feilding 10. On the 17th, when lying one, Herdman with his last attempted to drive the kittv into the ditch for three, but failed—Feilding 11, Woodvillo 17. A\ oodville were lying; one on the 18th when Ross burned the head, and in the replay Nicholas drew a beauty dead behind the jack. Moore displaced the shot bowl and Ross, with his first, trailed the kitty. His second put the jack into the ditch, lnit AA’oodville were two up, scoring with a back bowl and Nicholas’s toucher, which followed the kitty. Herdman wrested one and AVardrop’s last bowl ended in the ditch, tlie head finishing ono up to AVoodville. —AA’oodville 18, Feilding H. AVith three heads to go, Herdman thus required 8 to win. AVith Feilding lying one on the'l9th, Trctt wrested the shot bowl and left AVoodville one to the good. AVardrop drew another, and Herdman could not alter the lie. —AVoodville 20, Feilding 11. Ross drove again on the 20th and again put the jack in. the ditch, Feilding with a toucher there, now being one’ up- AVardrop drew a beautiful shot inches off the ditch, and finished one to the good, thereby clinching the result. The last head was played, AA ardrop scoring another single, the match resulting in his favour by 22 to 11. PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. At the conclusion of the game tho trophy orders won were presented by tho president of the Manawatu Centre Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., who heartily ’ congratulated the four winning rinks and expressed the hopo that they would again be competing next year. The tournament had been played under ideal conditions, although the weather had not been too promisin'' at tho start, and some fino play had been seen. The winning skip had been knocking at the door tor a number of years past, and his success was well deserved. In passing, Mr Nash mentioned that the centre would later discuss a proposal to hold a big tournament at New Year time.
