EXCITING SCENES
ON WAIHI BEACH. MOTOR CYCLERUNS AMOK. WOMAN AND CHILD KNOCKED DOWN. Per Press Association. WAIHI, April 6. An oxciting runaway occurred on the Wailu beach on Sunday, in which a woman and a child had a narrow escape from being killed. Robert Mitchell, a Public Works employee, was proceeding on a motor cyclo from the main beach road on .to the sand when the back wheel struck a large stone, the impact jolting tho back lever out. Immediately the cyclo swerved and roared up on the back wheel and dashed with terrific speed into a group of holiday makers. Seoing tho vehicle had run amok, tho orowd .scattered' in all dfirections. However, a married woman, Mrs J. J. Fox. wan knocked down and the year-ola dauglitor of Mr Claud Capper met a similar fato. Tho latter’s life was saved by the rider throwing the machine on its side just before the impact occurred. Mitchell was pinned beneath tho machine and suffered severe injuries .to the foot. The injuries to nil parties were attended to by a. doctor who happened to bo on tho beach.
