INDEPENDENT PARTY,
Received April 6, 1.25 p.m. LONDON, April 5. “Socialism in our time” was adopted as tho slogan at tho Independent Labour Party Conference, most speakers expressing tho opinion that they would not live to see it if the slow official labour policy wero continued.
Some delegvte3 asked their colleague Lady Cynthia Mosley if it were truethat she was giving up her title. She replied: “I would like to, but I cannot. I have been called it all my life and people will continue to do so.” As if to prove otherwise many delegates persisted in calling her Comrade Cynthia. Her husband, Oswald, told an interviewer that if ever his' father’s baronetcy came his way he would certainly take steps to relinquish it. Most of the afternoon was spent in discussion of the National Council’s programme, which war. adopted with minor amendments. Tho policy includes full maintenance during unemployment payments to mothers according to the number of each household, tho control of prices and the nationalisation of fool imports.—A. amt N.Z. cable.
