RIGHT TO LIVE
FUNDAMENTAL DEMAND. LABOUR LEADER’S SPKECBL AIMS OF THE PARTY. (By Electric Telegiaph.—Copyright.) w Received April 6, 9.5 a.m. LONDON, April 5. Mr F. W. Jowett. ex-Minister, president of tho Independent Labour Party Conference, declared that the right to live was a fundamental demand and Labour must keep it in the forefront and boldlv announce that the next Labour Gov'err*uent, with or without a majority in the House of Commons, were determined, to take decisive action in tho direction of Socialism. During the past live years British workers’ wages were reduced by the colossal total of £590,000,000. An increase in workers’ incomes of 5s weekly per child, out of the State revenues, would increase the workers’ spending powers sufficient to removo all unemployment. •Ho agreed with the American Ambassador, Mr Houghton, that European statesmen had learnt nothing by tho war. We were beck to the pre-war rivalries. The present capitalist policies must inevitably drown Europe in a sea of blood unless international labour organised resistance. Their party stood for internationalism as well as Socialism in our time. —A. and N.Z. cable.
