NAPIER v. PALMERSTON NORTH. A FINE SPORTING FIXTURE. Ihe cricket match between the Napier Technical School Old Boys and a team of local colts, which had open<2(l at the Sportsgronnd on Saturday, was continued this morning. On the opening day, Napier, taking first strike, had compiled tho good total of 254, tlie termination of play for iho day finding Palmerston North with five wickets down for 118, Mcllaffie and Spring, who had 28 and 29 to their respectivo credits, being still mbeaten. - On resumption this morning, however, Spring was beaten by the first ball ho received. The tail of the team came to the rescue, and lending McHaffio excellent support, tho total had been carried to 234 beforo the final wicket fell. McHaffie, who went ninth wicket, contributed a valuable 77, while three of the four final batsmen entered double figures. Rouse and Pirie shared tho bowling honours for the visitors, the former, who bowled 20 overs, accounting for four wickets at a cost of 68 runs, while the latter took three for 41 runs. With an advantage of 20 runs on the first innings, Napier entered upon their second strike shortly beforo noon, disaster almost immediately befalling them, for, with but three runs up, Young was run out in endeavouring to secure a second run, while Eliott, his partner, followed him to the pavilion with the score unaltered. Graham and Hardakor became associated, and although ' tho scoring ' was quiet, stopped tho rot which threatened, and at the luncheon adjournment the score was reading 20 up without further loss.
