CIVIL SERVICE.
QUESTION OF HOURS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 3. Tho Public Service Comnusioner, Mr P. Verschaffelt, emphatically denied tho current report that tho civil service hours were being extended to S a.m. to 5 p.m. He says the matter has never been considered and there is no prospect of it being considered. Ho added that about 40 departments would oorne under the purview bf the economy committoe announced by Mr Coates on 26th February to report on tho working of the reforms adopted and as to further reforms and improvements in the departmental control i)f finance. It would therefore be two or three months before the report was available.
