STEEL PROPELLER.
NOVELTY FOR AIRSHIPS. ACTS AS BRAKE. LONDON, March 21. The constructors of the airship R 101 have completed a two-bladed stainless steel air propeller, 16ft. in diameter. It is tlie largest metal air screw yet built, but is lighter than a wooden one of the same size.
It incorporates a novel hub mechanism actuated by a hand lever, which twists the blades to an angle at which it acts as a brake for tho purpose of steadying the airship while it is drawn up to the mooring mast. The Government has placed a contract for steel girders tor the RlOl, on which work has begun. The experiments for the safety of the airship are being continued, and include the building of a complete section simply for testing to destruction.
