ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

EASTER TOURNAMENT. The first round of the Easter Association football tournament, held under the auspices of St. Andrew’s Club, was played on North Street Park yesterday afternoon. Despite the fine weather the attendance was not large, due, no doubt, to counter attractions. Four matches wero played, tho games evoking considerable enthusiasm. ATHLETIC (6) r. Y.M.C.A. (1). In tho match between Y.M.C.A. and Athletic, the former appeared to hold the advantage early in the first spell, but Athletic rapidly warmed to their work and forced play to their opponents’ ground where, after one ;or two ineffectual attacks, Y.M.C.A.’s defence was pierced. Y.M.C.A rallied considerably and put Athletic on the defensive. Faulty kicking by Y.M.C.A. enabled Athletic to clear, and the ball was carried to the other end of the field. Tho attack failed, but shortly afterwards a forward movement culminated in another goal being added to Athletic’s sheet.

Seatoun in their match with Brooklyn held the advantage throughout, and, at the end of the first spell, were leading by two goals—jone of which was hotly disputed during the spell. The second half saw Brooklyn defending strenuously, but their opponents proved superior in all departments of the game and added four more goals before the final whistle. The winners’ scores were obtained by Kershaw (2), Kinder (2), McKenzie (1) and Hilton (1). Mr Eox refereed. RANGERS (3) v. MARIST (1). Marist took possession of the game in tho first spell of their match against Rangers and attacked time after time, their opponents having difficulty in averting disaster on several occasions. Early in the second speli Rangers were thrown back and their defence was broken down, the ball being netted. From then on Rangers gradually E roved their superiority and, at the nal whistle, had secured three goals. Lovejoy., Galloway and Beer scored for the winners, • Marists’ goal being secured by AY. Condon. ST. ANDREW’S 3 v. WELGASCO 1. St. Andrew’s defeated Welgasco by a margin of two points, the score being 3; —1. Play was of a fairly even nature, but the superior combination of St. Andrew’s stood them in good stead. Davis, Ranson and Kennedy shot for the winners. Thomson secured tho losers’ only goal. Mr D. Moxani refereed. Tho R.S.A. team to travel to Flock House on Monday will be; Chapman, Taylor, Tucker, Jackson, West (captain), Jamieson, Morgan, Gardner, McDonald, Oontaur, Lovejoy. The team will meet at the Soldiers’ Club at 9.30 a.m. sharp.
