Tho hall was comfortably filled with friends and the gifts wore numerous and useful. The evening ing was spent with games, dancing and music. At an interval during the even, ing Mr A. K. Drew, asked Miss Ellorm to accept the gifts as a mark of the high esteem in which she is held in tho district and also asked her acceptance of a tea pot and 6omo china waro from tho ladies of the guild. Mr Drew in his remarks said that the guest of tho ovening would be greatly missed and that the district in which she was about to reside would _bo tho gainer of a very useful and willing worker. Mr Owen lillerm responded on behalf of his sister. A very dainty supper Was provided by lady friends. It is not often that this town is visited with a picture show, but the screening of the Now Zealand picture “Rowi’s last Stand,” attracted a very good attendance and the picture was much appreciated. Unfortunately tho hall piano had been lent for a social function .in the district and the abaonco of the usual musio was a disadvantage. , Harvest thanksgiving Services wore held at the Methodist Church on Sunday last, tho church being nicely docorated for tho occasion. Services wero conducted by Rev. W. S. Neal in tho morning and Mr Guy in the evening. Tho salo of fruit and produco hold on Monday evening resulted in a welcomo addition to tho Trust funds. A well attended mooting of tho football club was held on Monday evening. Tho mombers present wero keen and there is indication of a very successful season. SHANNON. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The crowning ceremony of tho winning candidate in tho baby carnival tcok place in the Maoriland Theatre, on Wednesday afternoon, when tho thoatro was filled to its capacity. Unfortunately tho raiji rather spoiled tho effect of tho grand march from tho post ofiico corner to the hall, but nevertheless, thoro was a large gathering to witness tho ceremony and very dainty and pretty did tho small candidates look in their decorated carriages drawn by small maids appropriately dressed in the colours of oacJi committee. Tho wholo procession was headed by the court page—dressed in old roso and handsome lace —bearing a crimson and gold crown. After the candidates had been arranged on tho stage and tho Mayoress (Mrs E. Butt) had taken her position, with Mr Hutton, and tho full committees of tho three candidates, Mr Hutton addressed tho audienco at 6ome length on the great benefit to be de-

rived by all classes of the community from the Plunkot Society. Ho mentioned that tho Shannon Society would require about £SO a yoar to keep in a proper working position and after getting firmly on its feet as a result of this carnival it was hoped that only a very 6mall appeal to tho public each year would be necessary. Mr Hutton then announced that the manifieent sum of £2OO had beon cleared by this effort. (Chocrs). He then declared tho “Farmers” . baby, Boatrico Saxon, to bo the winner, “Town” baby. lan Hudson, second, and Mangahao a very close third. After reading the usual declaration Mr Hutton called upon Mrs *Butt “as first lady of the land” to crown Boatrico Saxon queen of Shannon, and to present on bohalf of tho Plunkot Society a small gift to each candidate.

After a hearty vote of thanks to all who had assisted towards tho success of tho Carnival proceedings were closed with a vocal duet by Josie and Freda Thompson, “Don’t you remember tho Time?” Members of tho various committees and visitors from Mangahao were then entertained by tho Plunket Society to afternoon toa at Miss Bonfiolds.
