GOLF TOURNAMENT
THE QUALIFYING ROUND. Play over tho first 18 holes of the qualifying round of tho Manawatu Golf Club’s tournament was concluded this afternoon, no other player attaining Ekstedt’s record of 72. The, balance of scores in the first half of tho elimination round, giving tho gross score, tho handicap, and net score, are as follow: —J. S. Tingey, 101 —16 —85; R. Smart, 102 —18—84; H. Greener, 104—18—86, D. Warburton, 114—18— 99; F. Bendall, 97—18—79; H. Kerr, 101—18—83; J. Carter, 107—18—89; N. Buist, 104—16 —88 ; H. W. Petre, 106 —16 —90; L. Seifert, jnr. B—l4 — 74; R. Haworth, 96—18—78; H. Collier, 112—18—94; Robin Hood,. 103— 16—87; F. Macphorson, 105 —18 —87; H. Dodds, 99—16—83; T. M. Fathers, 99_1B_81; L. Daniell, 104—16—88; H. F. George, 84—.4—80; J. A. Cunningham, 90 —14—76. THE MEDAL HANDICAP. Tho modal handicap conducted in conjunction with the first 18 holes resulted in three being level for first place:—A. E. Ekstedt, 72 —owe 2 74, E. V. Spear, 90—16 —74, and Louis Seifert, junr., 88—14—74. There will bo a play off later. PROMISING YOUNG GOLFER. Louis Seifert, junr., continues to give promiso of becoming a golfer of note. Twelve years of age, his 88 this morning was considerably better than the score of the majority of the adult experienced exponents. His card included a two at both Tiritea and Tho Willows.
A cable message from Delhi states that the Viceroy-elect and Lady Irwin arrived at Bombay by the steamer Mooltan, and were welcomed by the Acting-Governor at a distinguished assemblage. The Bombay Corporation presented an address.
