ELTHAM FIRE.
INQUEST RESUMED. Per Press Association. ELTHAM, March 29. The adjourned inquest into the Dominion boarding-house fire, in which four people were burned to death, was resumed to-day. Evidence was given by Mrs Taylor, proprietress, and William James Calder, manager, but nothing startling was elicited. Mr.; Taylor was almost in a state of collapse, her evidence being punctuated with sobs and signs of deep emotion. A lady friend attended and soothed the hysterical woman throughout her painful experience. Calder gave his evidence in a cool and collected manner, showing that lie hhd a clear recollection of the tragic events. It was announced that the Fire Board would demand a magisterial inquiry- into the fire. Several witnesseswere heard, the proceedings lasting all dav.
