FAMILY QUARREL
FATHER SHOT DEAD. SON CHARGED WITH MURDER. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received March 30, 10.5 a.m. SYDNEY, March 30. At the inqeust into the circumstances surrounding the death of Alexander Strong, who was killed following a family quarrel and in consequence of whose death his son, Bruce Strong, was arrested and charged with murder, evidence was given by a son, Alexander, who said that deceased used to threaten to blow the family’s brains out. He gave instances of acts of cruelty by the father to members of the family. The coroner said that although the evidence showed that deceased was a x’eniarkably cruel man and became practically a maniac when under the influence of liquor, he could not define accused’s action as anything other than murder. Accused was committed for trial.— Press Association.
Alexander Strong, aged 57. is alleged to have threatened the members of bis family at Smith’s Creek, near Murwillumbah. His son, Bruce, aged 26, is alleged to have fired two shots with a rifle at his father, killing him. Bruce Strong in a statement to the police said that he fired in self-defence.
