Tho ftinoral of Mrs M. Lyons, wife of Mr Michael Lyons, whoso death occurred at a private hospital in Palmerston North after a painful illness, took placo at tho Rongotoa cemetery on Thursday last. Deceased was highly respected throughout the whole of tho district and much sympathy is felt for Mr Lyons and family in their sad and irreparable bereavomont. Wroaths wero both numerous and beautiful and tlicro was a largo following of friends to tho gravosido. Tho sorvico was conducted in a most impressive manner by Father O’Boirno. Deceased leaves behind to mourn her loss her husband, Mr Michael Lyons, three daughters and two sons. A mooting of tho sottlers of the district was held in tho hall on Saturday evening for tlio purposo of confirming tho resolution passed at a provious meeting for the winding up of tho Taikorca Sports Club and of tho disposal of tho funds in hand. Tho question of the completion of tho work in connection with tho soldiers’ monument and the disposal of tho funds held in trust for tho sick and wounded soldiers was also dealt with. Mr Algar was voted to tho chair and stated he was sorry to sco such a small attendance and it was evidont by such attendances that tho district was lapsing into a state of letargy. A motion confirming tho resolution of winding up the Sports Club was passed. It was decided that the Nathan Cup ovent ho run at tho Oroua Downs Sports Club this yoar under tho name of tho Taikorca Club. Tho crodit halanco of tho club was £52 lie 9d and it was agreed to voto £45 to tho soldiers’ memorial fund and tho balanco to tho funds of tho hall. A letter of apology for not being ablo to attend tho mooting was read from Mr B. 11. Lock, asking tho meeting to make some arrangements as to tho disposal of the funds which amounted to something near £2(jo, tlio meeting agreed to deal with the funds in tho following manner: £l5O to be distributed and tho balanco bo roservod for two years for distribution amongst ajiy fresh cases which might arise during that poriod; if no such cases at tho expiration of two years tho money hold to ho distributed amongst the previous bonoficiaries. Tho question of the completion of die work of the soldiers’ monument was loft in tlio hands of the chairman, who stated tho funds for same wero cash in hand £9, subscriptions owing which had boon promised but not yet collected £l2, and donation from sports olub £45; total £66.
