PROPOSED ALLIANCE.

LIBERALS AND LABOURITES. REJECTED BY LLOYD GEORGE. LONDON, Jan. 20. A Liberal-Labour alliance was definitely rejected by Mr Lloyd George in a speech at Carnarvon. A repetition of 1924 was inconceivable, he said. They accepted a full share of the blame for that, but it would be imprudent to use Liberalism’s trust again and associate with such an alliance. It was useless to predict that tho Socialists would acquire an absolute majority until many elections had gone. There was a rigid limit to the growth of Socialism, beyond which it could not spread. It would not be wise for Liberalism to seek an alliance with any party, but rather it should proceed to make a powerful position for itself. Liberalism was not going to perish. On the contrary it would count more at tho coming elections than at any time since 1910. —A. and N.Z. cable.

LIBERALS’ INTENTIONS

WAITING FOR NEXT ELECTION,

Received January 22 9.10 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 21

Rumours that ho intended to launch a movement for a Liberal-Labourite alliance were promptly scotched by Mr Lloyd George in a speech at Carnarvon. He said that it was not wise for the Liberals to negotiate for an alliance with any party. They would concentrate their energies on securing a large Liberal representation in the next Parliament. When that was achieved it would bo time to consider co-operation with men prepared to support tho programme the Liberal Party approved whether it involved a Coalition Government or not.—Reuter.
