MYSTERY DISEASE.
ON BRITISH BARQUE. ONE MAN DIES. MELBOURNE, Jan. 13. The mystery disease contracted by seven members of the crew of the fourmasted British barquo AVilliam Mitchell, which proved the most baffling ever encountered by the Melbourne quarantine authorities, has resulted in the death of one man. _ Edward Larvikainer, a six-foot Russian seaman, succumbed to the undiagnosed complaint early on Monday morning at Portsea quarantine station. Iu a bed near where the Russian sailor lay is Clifford Islverwood, one of the ship’s apprentices, who is dangerously ill. Despito repeated requests by tho ship’s officers for representation bv the crew at their oomrade’s funeral, tho quarantine officers refused permission on account of the disease.
