AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB. SUCCESSFUL EVENING CARNIVAL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) One of tho most successful evening carnivals in tho Swimming Club’s history was hold at tho baths last night in tho presence of a largo gathering of tho public. Competitors woro present from Fcilding, Terrace End and Marton and tho sport provided wan always interesting. Events woro staged, with commendable promptitudo and much credit is duo to tho officials for tho capable manner in which tho carnival was conducted. Mr Palmor, of tho Ma.nawa.tu C'ontro, thanked tho publio for t.hoir gonorous support and announced that Mr E. McGruor, of Fcilding, had donatod a £3 3s trophy for the men’s 100 y .rds, to bo competed for at tho next carnival which is to bo held a.t Feilding on Show Pay, February 3rd, at 8 p.m. The object of last night’s carnival was to raise the sum of £SO towards improvements to tho baths and tho takings last night would almost reach that sum. THEFT OF A MIRROR. A man and his wife appeared before Messrs Jas. Penney and R. H. ' Smalo, J.P.’s, charged with the theft of a mirror, tho property of a restaurant. The male accused pleaded guilty and tho female accused not guilty. After hearing evidence, tho Bench dismissed tho case against tho woman and finod the man 10s, in default 48 hours. Counsel for accused asked for suppression of their names as the malo accused was a first offender. The Bench refused the application and left the matter to the discretion of the press. Sergeant Cahill prosecuted and Mr D. C. Cullinano appealed for tho accused. BOWES. Four rinks from tho Bulls Club paid a visit to Feilding yesterday to take part in a friendly competition. They suffered defeat, Feilding winning by 112 points to 56. Mr Lovett, in tho absenco of the prseident and vice-president, welcomed the visitors on behalf of the Feilding Club.
