CHURCH DISPUTE
BISHOP AND CLERGY LONDON, Jan. 12. Tho Bishop of Birmingham, Dr. E. W. Barnos, denies that ho has any intention of taking legal action regarding tho clergy in his diocese with whom he has had a dispute as to "reservation of tho Sacrament.” Tho 1 Westminster Gazette asserts, however, that the Birmingham conflict is merely a preliminary skirmish, and that all the liishons, whether "High” or “Low” churcli, aro determined to hold up their authority. If the bishop is successful at Birmingham strong disciplinary measures will follow in nearly every dioceso in England. "If reservation of tho Sacrament is legalised it will split tho Church of England. On the other hand, our Anglo-Catholic opponents declare that thero will bo a split if reservation is not legalised,” said Dean H. W. Hindo, vicar of Islington, in summing up the position.
