£1,000,000 SCHEME.
NEW GOVERNAIENT BLOCK. AIANY BUILDINGS TO GO. SYDNEY, Jan. 15. AVith tho abolition of the Upper House almost an established fact, the Premier (Air Lang) lias conceived the idea of making one big block of Government buildings in Alacquarie street. The scheme will involve the expenditure of £1,000,000. Air Lang’s idea is to build a new and impressive Parliament House, take over the Sydney Hospital, tho Mint and Industrial Court sites, and builpl one huge building which will house all the Government departments. At present the State Government is negotiating with the Federal authorities with a view to securing the Aloore Park frontages of Victoria Barracks, to where it is anticipated the Sydney Hospital will be moved. The Mint site has also been under discussion with tho Imperial authorities. Old courts are to make way for a now building, which will house all the courts, including supreme, criminal, industrial and police. Air Lang anticipates that if Parliament passes the Abolition Bill the work of drawing up the plans for the new building will be put in hand mediately.
