PLUNKET SHIELD.

CANTERBURY BATTING WELL. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 10. The Plunket Shield match between Auckland and Canterbury was continued yesterday in fine weather, when, following on Gregory’s dismissal, Cox batted attractively and, assisted by Page, took the scoro to 167, when the latter left. Talbot, who followed, was unusually cautious. Cox batted two and three-quarter hours before Smith caught him off Player. Ho received a great ovation. Woods was the hero of the day, however, and compiled 107 runs by sound cricket before stumps were drawn. Canterbury then had 381

on the board for seven wickets, or were 35 behind Auckland’s first innings score. Sandman, who was troubled with a bad knee, went in late and assisted Woods to increase the score. Auckland’s fielding was fairly sound, but returns to the wicket were sometimes wihl. Detailed scores:— AUCKLAND.
