A FIELD OF HASHISH.
FOUND NEAR NEW YORK. PROMPT DESTRUCTION EFFECTED. Twenty acres or so of a brownishgreen weed growing wild near a railroad yard in Long Island City, New York, were discovered to be a variety of hashish, one of tho most potent and dangerous drugs’ of India. Information to this effect was given by a Mexican youth, Andres Huerta. • The authorities immediately declared war- on the field, and tho local fire department was summoned to aid the police to cut and burn the area. Residents in tho vicinity stated that Mexicans and Spaniards had frequently been seen picking the weed.
