WOMEN’S NOTES
A wedding celebrated in Dannovirke last week was that of Mr Frank Hunter, son of Mr and Mrs Robert Hunter, of New Plymouth, formerly of Dannevirke, and Miss Constance Middleton, daughter of Mr and Mrs Middleton, of Levin. Her' Excellency Lady Alice Fergusson is now in Auckland, and, except when away on tour, will bo in residence there until the middle of April. During the period of Court mourning for tlie late Queen Auexandra their Excellencies are precluded from attending social functions or entertainments.
An old and much respected former Takapau resident in the person of Mrs D. Cattanach, wife of Mr Duncan Cattanach, formerly of Takapau, and late of Auckland, passed away at the Pahiatua hospital last week after a brief illness. Two of the deceased Indy’s sons are Messrs W. D. and E. D. Cattanach, of WoodvTlle.
Mr Herbert Priestley, F.S.A.A., F.C.P.A., J.P., and Mrs Priestley, of Sydney, are among the visitors to Wellington. Mr Priestlev’s son, Professor Priestley, M.D., Ch.M., B.Sc., of the Sydney University, is married to a sister of Miss W. G. Maitland, of Wellington, whoso engagement to ProWa*or Tennant, also of Wellington, aas 'sheen recently announced.
According to the British Australian and New Zealand of November 19, Dr. Agnes Bennett, of Wellington, has left England for Java. Just prior to sailing she had been doing some work in children’s hospitals in London, and personally investigated the work of the women police and the Borstal Institution for Girls.
The itinerant barber has arrived, says a London paper, and a great boon he is proving to busy business girls and harassed housewives who have no time to wait their turns in tho overcrowded shops of the coiffeur. Any Sunday morning, in almost any suburban area, one may see a smartlydressed man carrying a neat leather bag touring the middle-class houses.
