MOTOR CRASH
CAR DIVES’ INTO CREEK. ONE KILLED, FIVE HURT. SYDNEY, Dec. 17. A fatal motor accident occurred at Hanley’s Creek bridge, two miles south of Dungog, shortly after midnight. Mr Joseph Gatty was driving with his wife, three sons, and a daughter, when the car struck the edge of a culvert.
It smashed through the railing, and fell 15 feet into the creek, landing on its wheels.
Mr Gatty was struck on the head by a piece of the culvert railing, and was killed instantly. His three sons were thrown into tho water, while his wife and daughter lay huddled in tho car, which was full of water.
Jack, tho second eldest son, secured help from houses near by, and lifted tho others out on to the bank. Leo Gatty, the eldest son, was found beneath the car, and was nearly drowned before he could bo rescued. The night was very dark, and it was difficult to find tho victims.
Mrs Gatty received injuries to tho back, and is suffering from shock. Leo and Eric, two of the sons, are suffering also from shock, and Rita Gatty lias a broken wrist.
Mr Gatty was an experienced driver, hut the night was very dark.
