NORTH AUCKLAND LANDS.
MANY PARTS NEEDING .RAIN. ‘ « - WHANGAREI, Dec. 23. Rain is much needed throughout tho Whangarei district. The pastures are beginning to show the effects of the reent comparatively dry spell following upon the heavy rains and cold weather in the early spring which retarded growth. In parts of the Bay of Islands county the country has a parched appearance. At Pakahaka one-tenth of an inch of rain fell during tho past fortnight, and the official record shows that only lialf an inch has fallen during the last three months. Rain storms have been seen on several occasions to pass over adjoining districts without giving the Pakahaka settlers the benefit of much-needed moisture. In those parts where the rain has been more like normal the crops promise well.
